Ryan Leef has enjoyed a variety of occupations prior to being elected as the Member of 41st Parliament for the Yukon including; Wildlife Guide, Conservation Officer, RCMP Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Operations at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre. His family moved to the Yukon in 1984 and he has subsequently lived in many communities throughout the territory.
Ryan entered politics because he feels he has benefited so much from the Yukon and he wanted the opportunity to give back. He intends to do this threefold:
1. To simplify politics and to ensure the process to start an endeavour is not more complicated than the endeavour itself. To be a Member of Parliament in whom everyone can see a bit of themselves.
2. To learn from our past and guard it from neglect; to improve the present; and perfect our future.
3. To help the Yukon find its place in Canada as Canada has found in the world.
Ryan has been appointed to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security (SECU) and the Standing Committee on Natural Resources. He has joined the Canada-Germany and Canada-United States interparliamentary groups, and sits on BC/Yukon, Northern, Outdoor and National Caucuses. He looks forward to the challenges that these bring and to be a strong voice for Yukoners.
Ryan lives in Whitehorse and has one son, Aaron.
